Unit 4:Project Design Implementation and Evaluation - Week 13

After Christmas break I've moved onto modelling my first weapon for the game. Process has been slow for two reasons:

1 - I've also had to focus a lot on other assignments (Java blackjack game, and php back end website). These are major assignments so they have been taking a lot of my time lately.

2 - While trying to smooth part of my weapon, Maya crashed and the file corrupted. No matter what I tried in order to re-open the temporary file that Maya created before crashing, it just won't open, and this caused me to lose a huge chunk of progress as well as motivation.

With that said, here is what I've been working on after the incident:

This screenshot shows me taking precautions (after the crash) so that Maya now auto-saves every 10 minutes no matter what. Needless to say, I should have done this the moment I even started the modelling process. It also shows the last save of the model before the crash. I do not have a screenshot before the crash, so all I can say is that I had a more made, and this crash basically reset my whole work.
Here is a close up of the stock for the weapon. I have decided to only smooth part of the stock, specifically the top and back bits. The bottom bit is a bit more flat, and no matter what I tried the smoothing tool would always ruin it, so I decided to not smooth it.

Next week I am aiming to get the weapon 100% sculptured, and hopefully if I have time I will work on rigging, animation and porting it to the game.
