Unit 4:Project Design Implementation and Evaluation - Week 9

This week I have been researching and re-learning for the most part. Since I haven't used Unreal Engine in a while, as well as Maya, I had to adapt to them again, as a substantial amount of my knowledge was hibernating. I have also been continuing to work on the level design, more specifically texturing and building the structure of my first level (which will generally dictate how the others levels will be like).
I think it was a good idea to start with level design  also because it helps me to get familiar with the engine, and helps me remember again.

I ran into a a few problems, two of which i managed to overcome and will talk about below:

Here you can see some of the textures weren't displaying as they show. However, this only happened to some of the textures for some reason - the others were working as intended. Whatever I tried to do to fix them, they would either look very low-res or ridiculously out of scale OR flickering... OR ALL OF THE ABOVE. Dealing with this was truly a nightmare for a while, until I eventually found a solution, which obviously was very simple...

All I had to do was change the alignment to Surface Box and then re-scale them in a way that would look fitting.

And voilĂ . Textures were fixed.

Here is how the first level is looking like. I feel like the hurdle - that was getting familiar again with the engine, researching and planning - is finally behind me, and from now on the work flow will be sped up. In no time, the level design will be complete.
